The bodies of an American and two Australians were found dead in Mexico last weekend, FBI San Diego announced in a statement obtained by NBC News on Friday (May 3).

The three individuals, identified as Jake Robinson, Callum Robinson and Jack Carter Rhoad, were located in Santo Tomas, Baja California. On Thursday (May 2), Mexican authorities said they were questioning three people on the disappearance of the three men, though Baja California chief prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez wouldn't say whether they were considered suspects or witnesses, but did confirm that they were tied to the case in some form, NBC News reported at the time.

Evidence, including tents, a white pickup and a cell phone believed to have possibly belonged to one of the missing men, were also found, according to Andrade Ramírez. A team of investigators was present at the site where the individuals were last seen alive and analyzing "tents and other evidence" found in the area to see if they were connected to the case.

"There is a lot of important information that we can’t make public," Andrade Ramírez said.

The three men were believed to have been visiting Baja California for surfing and camping at the time of their disappearance.
